Textiles
An embodied sense of nature connection and how this materialises into a sense of identity and belonging in place are unframed and re-framed through the textile responses. The complexities of a material connection that is constantly in the process of shifting and transition is revealed through the tensions in stitch, embroidery, construction and de-construction of fabrics which is appropriately expressed through the Punjabi metaphor ‘chijj’ which means to tear apart misconceived socially constructed labels of identity. Drawing in Stitch and creating wearable art enable the artist to embody a unique connection with nature as it emerges through the everyday experience of walking in local place.
